That's because what you need is not the proprietary driver but rather the **firmware**, which on Xubuntu is loaded in the kernel when you boot your machine. The same proprietary firmware is obviously missing in Trisquel. Hence your hardware 'works good' with Xubuntu shipping the vanilla linux kernel that is full of proprietary firmware blobs (the one for your wifi included) and works NOT with Trisquel for the particular needed blob is not there..
