Yes claws-mail is a great mail client, lighweight and modular (you add plugins for extra functionality). I use it with POP3 for downloading mails and SMTP for sendind, as plugins i use PGP MIME for encrypt/decrypt, sign/verify and a plugin for new mail notification.
