I'm 24, owned a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Replicant for a month, then did away  
with it for these same concerns. In my entire life, that is the only time  
I've owned a smartphone, and I'm fine without it.

Have also been without Facebook for almost a year.
As for the eink device. I looked into that myself one time, I don't think  
there are any that fit the criteria. I'd really like one too though, so if  
you learn anything, let me know.
