inb4 this becomes another systemd thread. > May I ask you why you recommend Hyperbola? :) Especially why you recommend > it over Parabola? :)
Calmstorm prefers a distro without systemd. If you would like to know why search the forum, as this issue has been discussed plenty. Parabola offers both openrc and systemd ISOs, but unlike Parabola, which is a rolling distro containing all the latest software and all the latest bugs, Hyperbola is focused on stability. I gather that this is the other reason Calmstorm likes Hyperbola. I haven't tried out Hyperbola yet, but I like the idea of it. Don't worry about the fact that it is not yet FSF-endorsed. The developers are committed to including only free software. > I think I'm going to try a more simplistic GNU OS now By "simplistic" do you mean "minimal interface" or "easy to use"? If you mean "easy to use" I do not recommend Parabola or Hyperbola unless you (A) know somebody who can help you install it or (B) are ready for an adventure. There is no graphical installer or default desktop environment. You'll have to partition the disk, install and configure the system, and install your desired desktop environment and display manager from a command line. This could be a great learning experience if you're up for it, but don't expect it to be as easy as installing Trisquel. If you mean "minimal interface" I think you'll find that choice of desktop environment matters more than choice of distro, and you can install pretty much all of the same desktop environments on any distro. I'm pretty sure I've explained to you what desktop environments are and how to install and try them at least two or three times :) but if you do need help don't be afraid to ask.
