Body Thetans, or BTs...well, you wouldn't find that in the tech dictionary, as it is considered 'confidential'. That's the stuff you deal with on the OT Levels (OT levels 3 through 7). I know this because I have a very curious mind (just like you) and I often put my paws where I'm not supposed to; like many years ago, when I just started out with Scientology (three months into it) and I went online and read OT 3 through OT 7. The trouble the church gave me over this, over and over, through countless sec-checks and interviews - that's how I know it's 'confidential'. LOL. Personally I have serious doubts about the validity of this whole Body Thetan thing. This is for various reasons (and don't worry, I'm not going to reveal any confidential details here). But the main ones being: For one, LRH dealt with this sort of thing in the early fifties. He talks about it in his lecture series "The Route to Infinity - Technique 80 Lectures" [1952]. I'm sure most Scientologist on here will be familiar with this series (one of the more popular ones). He describes Technique 80 (something he developed in 1952), and that consists of establishing and raising ARC with every part of the body. So you'd establish communication with your foot, for instance: you'd ask it questions and it would respond, often in quite unexpected and crazy ways. You'd find that the foot (and each other body part so communicated to) is on a particular tone level, and you can raise that tone level using that technique (Technique 80). If I remember correctly, he says (in these lectures) these entities (in the body) that respond are just circuitry or automaticities that behave like real beings but aren't. Interesting stuff. But he abandoned that area of research, and it never gets mentioned again in subsequent lecture series throughout the 50s and 60s. And another reason [why I have serious doubts] is another tape recording from 1952, entitled "Electropsychometric Scouting - The Battle of the Universes". It can be found on the internet, complete with transcripts. This is not a lecture per se; it's a taped auditing session between LRH and his wife Mary Sue (she's asking the questions), in which LRH is basically coming up with wild scenarios about a range of things while Mary Sue is observing the E-meter. It's quite wild: he's like a story teller that improvises and comes up with stories, then alters them slightly, based on what Mary Sue tells him about what the needle does as he tells these stories...until he 'gets them right'. This is supposed to be research. I find it quite flimsy. And that's why I'm not really convinced about this whole Body Thetan thing. Anyway, LRH basically talks about Body Thetans in that taped session. Only he calls them 'Targs Now this lecture is not confidential (the way the OT levels are confidential). It just hasn't been released by the church - quite possibly because of its content. Besides, it was taped in 1952 - way before LRH's alleged breakthrough with OT3 and the 'Wall of Fire', where he picks up again the concept of Body Thetans. In OT 3 an even wilder story gets woven into this whole subject of Body Thetans. What can I say. I just don't consider it valid tech. My personal opinion: there are things in Scientology that work brilliantly and deliver results. Like the things found in Book One (Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health): Engrams, Secondaries, Locks, etc. Or things like the ARC triangle and the tone scale. These are well researched and factual. But it seems to me LRH did research into other areas where you get less and less provable theory and results, where things get rather flimsy - like in that 1952 tape (Electropsychometric Scoputing). So David, if you're asking me, don't worry about BTs (Body Thetans). I know I don't. Whenever I hear BT I think of 'British Telecom' and my phone bill. And so should you. Just do your TROM. Not a good idea going left and right picking out other technologies in an effort to "fix" things. It just complicates things unnecessarily. It's best to just do one's TROM. One should be able to resolve one's mind just with TROM, with what one finds in the manual and in the tapes, and just going all the way to the top of Level 5 that way. But if you'd like to hear Denis' perspective on the matter: he talks about it extensively on tape. The tape is called "Dissociation", and you can find it on TROMhelp "Supplemental Lectures 2". But again, I think it's best to just do TROM and not worry about 'other stuff'. As a child, while my parents were weaning me of the nightlight, I used to lie in bed after the lights went out and I would stare into the darkness of my room. And my mind would be busy coming up with all sort of nasty stuff to put in the darkness in front of me, horrible things to populate the darkness with. It scared the s**t out of me. What I'm trying to say is: No need to do this to yourself. Just do TROM.
