Blainer) Here is what the BoM says for all to read. (1 Nephi 28-29): 28) Wherefore, thou seest that after the book hath gone forth through the hands of the great and abominable church, that there are many plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God (undoubtedly a reference to the New Testement, and possibly the OT). 29) And after these plain and precious parts were taken away it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles; and after it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles, yea, even across the many waters which thou hast seen with the Gentiles which have gone forth out of captivity (to America, i.e. the Pilgrims, many other settlers), thou seest--BECAUSE OF THE MANY PLAIN AND PRECIOUS THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE BOOK, which were plain unto the children of men, according to the plainess which is in the Lamb of God--BECAUSE OF THESE THINGS WHICH ARE TAKEN OUT OF THE GOSPEL OF THE LAMB, an exceeding great many do stumble, yea, insomuch that Satan hath great power over them.
Please note it does not condemn the Bible as being a tool of Satan. It condemns the removal of things that could have led to a clearer understanding of the gospel for many people. Blainer) This seems to be the crux of the whole thing here. David's biases prompted his wordage. I don't agree with his interpretation of what the BoM is saying. The BoM is innocently suggesting there are many things made plain in the BoM that are not clearly stated in the Bible. This does not mean the Bible is wrong, it just says that it is not always plain and clear. It seems to me this is a fair evaluation. That is how I see the Bible. It is God's word as far as it goes, just some missing parts. It obviously does a lot of good even with the missing parts, so how can you call it a tool of Satan? The BoM does not do that, neither do I. God in his mercy saw fit to undo the works of evil that made the Bible unclear in some places by giving us the BoM. And what happens? Most people ridicule this and defend the Bible's shortcomings as if it were a personal thing. God tries to help, and people get upset. Maybe he should have stayed in bed in the day he undertook to help us overcome the devil's handiwork. Some people just do not appreciate God for all the good he tries to do for us. Sometimes I feel like just throwing up my hands and saying, "pardon us Mormons for living!" Or, "pardon God for trying to help us out." The Bible says not to give gifts that are not appreciated. Maybe we should stop trying to do this, huh? (:>) Nevertheless, I consider my words an accurate > summary of > what Blaine wrote. Blainer) Maybe what we need to do is investigate whether the claims made in 1 Nephi are true or not. If plain and precious parts are missing, we should be able to identify them in the BoM. > A reading of 1 Nephi 13:29 in the light of Blaine's comments > revealed how it > was that Mormon theology teaches that the Bible is a tool of Satan > in that > its alledged missing of many "plain and precious parts" brings > people under > the power of Satan. > To my knowledge, neither Blaine nor Dave Hansen have repudiated my > summary > of these passages. I guess you are going to have to go through life struggling with this, wresting it to your own eventual condemnation. What you are resisting is the word of God to us in these latter days. Does that not mean anything to you?
