Dear Izzy:

You have asked "who can answer this" ( question of whether obedience is required in addition to faith in order to have salvation?)

There are those who will take one verse from God's word, and declare that all you must do is believe that whosoever believes on Jesus shall not perish, but have eternal life.  Paraphrased, "I believe, give me the free fire insurance that can never be cancelled for any reason".

Then there are those who feel that it is not all that easy, because the demons believe, and are doomed to Hell in spite of their belief (James 2:19), because Paul had a whole list of people who cannot enter Heaven because of their life style   (1 Cor. 6:9), because Jesus said "Those who go to Heaven are the ones who do the Fathers will (Matt. 7:21), because the Bible says in so many places that there can be no forgiveness without repentance ( a change in direction, stop doing wrong, start doing right.).

The Bible says we are saved by faith, and since the Bible says it, it is true.  The only question is, what constitutes faith?

Who is correct?  I do not know.  Being the cautious type, I take the second position.  Better too much than too little.  It would scare me to tell anyone that the only requirement for salvation is a statement that you believe.  They may do only that much, and be damned for eternity.

That's the way I see it.
Blessings,

Terry

23   "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; (1) DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'  Who can answer this??? Izzy
