Hi Terry,
Ha! Sorry, but in fairness to Francis, I must tell you these are just a FEW excerpts from what he has written (hopping around in a chapter), and surely NOT a complete picture of all his viewpoints. He is very big on eliminating sin in ourselves, however, before we get to the business of doing spiritual warfare. For that reason he warns us that Jesus called those who judged without first examining their own hearts “hypocrites”, because they were usually guilty of worse sins than those they were judging. (I’ve noticed that in myself; quite often the people who irritate me the most are quite a bit like me! Oh, horrid thought!)
As far as studying His Word, I am sure no one would agree with you more than F.F. After 30 years of studying it myself, I find you can never “know it all”. The truth there is infinite. There are deeper and deeper levels of understanding all the time for those willing to search them out.
Do you think that one can have discernment purely by studying, or do you think that the leading of the Holy Spirit is also necessary?
Izzy
