Terry, can you tell us how your wife prevailed with you? (She probably just dazzled you with her beauty!) Izzy
Izzy: I will try to make a long story short. Both of us were lost when we met. Neither of us were trying to please God or each other. We were both selfish, and that caused a lot of squabbling.
Then she got saved, and I noticed the change,. She was no longer so selfish or hard to live with. The more she matured in Christ, the easier she was to get along with, and the more content she seemed to be. All this failed to change me much. I was still selfish and pretty much determined to do what made me happy, but I did start to at least consider how she felt about some things.
I was managing a gun shop in south Florida where Miami joins Hialeah, and spending all my off time fishing. One of the guys I worked with went into partners with me, and we built two hundred lobster traps in our back yard. We bought a cheap boat (that fell apart a couple of years later) and took the whole deal to the Keys, where we put out the traps, pulling them on our days off. We were semi- successful in this endeavor, and I wanted to sell the house, buy a mobile home in the Keys, and spend a good portion of the house money on materials for more traps and a new boat.
With most women, an idea like this would go over like a shoe floating in the punch bowl, but when I presented the idea to her, she simply asked if I would agree to go to church with her once we moved. The deal was made. She kept her end, I kept mine. We went to that church every Sunday for over two and a Half years before I finally surrendered my will, and yielded to the Holy Spirit. I don't remember what the sermon was about, I did not even think much of the preacher, but when the time was right, I had to go forward. A lot of people were surprised, but none of them more than me. Now I am born again, a new creature, and I have been trying to spoil my wife ever since. I praise God every morning and every night for giving her to me. We have been married forty- seven years, and every one is better than the one before.
In 1989 I sold the boat and traps and moved north to the panhandle and opened my own shop. We are very happy here.
Hope this answers your question.
Terry
