The new testament scriptures talk of Prophets in the past tense.
Prophets ended at the time of John the baptist
Mt 11: 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
The Law ended by Christ also at that time:
Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the law

In TIME PAST God spoke by prophets:
Heb 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things
Jesus is heir of ALL things including the office of Prophet, Apostle, Priest & in these days God speaks through his son.

Peter speaks of Prophets in the past tense:
2 Peter 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets
It says "were" spoken NOT "are" spoken.
"Now" a-days made manifest by the scriptures.
Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God
He can now be found in the scriptures
Jesus said John 5:39-40 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me but you will not come to me that you might have life.
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

1 peter 2:7-8 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Remember Jesus warned of False Prophets. (Who are they?)
