The new testament scriptures talk of Prophets in the past tense.--
DAVEH: I gave Biblical references in a parallel post tonight that say that is not always so.Prophets ended at the time of John the baptist
DAVEH: Ditto.Mt 11: 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
The Law ended by Christ also at that time:
Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the lawDAVEH: IMHO, you have seriously misunderstood Paul on this.
In TIME PAST God spoke by prophets:
Heb 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
DAVEH: And will continue to do so in the future. Christ gave us
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all thingsJesus is heir of ALL things including the office of Prophet, Apostle, Priest & in these days God speaks through his son.
Mt 21:11 Jesus the prophet
Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus
Peter speaks of Prophets in the past tense:
DAVEH: And Paul speaks of them in present tense....."Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit." Eph 3:5
......So Kevin, who do you suppose the prophets were that Paul was referring to.....?
2 Peter 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets
It says "were" spoken NOT "are" spoken.
DAVEH: I don't know why you would think because one prophet (Peter was a prophet too, IMO) would refer to prophets in the past tense would mean that they could not exist in the present (or future)."Now" a-days made manifest by the scriptures.
Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting GodHe can now be found in the scriptures
DAVEH: Of course he can. But that does not preclude him being found in the mouths of subsequent prophets.Jesus said John 5:39-40 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me but you will not come to me that you might have life.
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.Foundation is Now Jesus
1 peter 2:7-8 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.Remember Jesus warned of False Prophets. (Who are they?)
Mt 24;24 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the electThe bible also warns of False Apostles, who are they?
DAVEH: You are making my point, Kevin. IF there were to be no further true prophets, Jesus would have warned against all future prophets. But he didn't....he just warned against the false prophets, thereby allowing for prophets in the future as mentioned by Paul (Eph 3:5) and John (Rev 11:10).
