According to LDS theology you must join the ONE TRUE Church

So according to LDS beliefs noone else can be saved unless they are Mormon?  That seems kind of narrow to me.  Laura

.......While it may seem "kind of narrow" to you, Laura, isn't the path to heaven "kind of narrow"?  (Mt 7:14)   The Bible tells us there is only one way to heaven, and that is through Jesus.  Furthermore, he said that ONLY those who are born of water (baptism, IMO) and the Spirit will enter the kingdom of God (Jn 3:5).....To me, that seems rather narrow, does it not?  IF my believe about born of water (being water baptism) is correct, as well as my belief that baptism need be done by proper authority, then it seems logical that a specific church could be the venue for where one could be properly baptized in one of his early steps on the path back to heaven.

OK  I understand what you are saying.  I still want to know if a person can get into heaven without belonging to the LDS church
DAVEH:  I thought my previous answer would have made it clear, Laura.  That is why we baptize for the dead.......so that people who are not LDS can accept baptism (a requirement IMO for entry to heaven) in their journey on the path to heaven.  Let me give you an example.  Suppose Glenn dies without becoming LDS, but he was baptized without the person baptizing him having the proper authority.  And, suppose that on the other side (of death), he learns that baptism by one having the proper authority is a requirement to enter heaven.  Is he out of luck, so to speak?  Then somebody says to him.....wait around (in spirit prison, perhaps).....eventually you will have a proxy baptism performed in your behalf and then you can proceed your journey back home.  Eventually, a baptism for the dead ordinance will be performed, and then presumably Glenn will be a happy dead dude and head onward towards heaven.  Does that mean the Glenn is/was an LDS person.....Not in my opinion.  So.....no, one does not have to be LDS to go to heaven.  Do you understand that scenario, Laura?
- if they are born again and baptized by their pastor or someone who is ordained.  Maybe my question should be   Can someone who is not a mormon have that proper authority?  Laura
DAVEH:  In this current time.....for all practical purposes, the answer is 'no'.  However, throughout history there are many folks baptized by those having the proper authority who were not LDS.
