The evening's lone confrontational incident occurred after panel organizer Brian Birch, director of UVSC's Religious Studies program, related an example of the negative response that he feels sometimes occurs among LDS leadership when Latter-day Saints investigate the beliefs of other faith groups.
That led Pastor Scott McKinney of Orem's Christ Evangelical Church and Robert Millet, one of four LDS participants and a professor at Brigham Young University, into a clash over the university's alleged expulsion of LDS students who convert to other religions.
McKinney and Millet briefly wrangled the issue before McKinney defused the situation by acknowledging that his wife, seated in the audience, was giving him warning looks.
