Thanks for thinking of me, Perry.  This is interesting.  I have several books on finds in Central America.  The current thinking of many church members is that most of the events in the BoM took place south of the American/Mexican border.  The evidence there is much more abundant.  I try to remember, however, that the BoM account emphasizes that the Nephite civilization was wiped out by around 380 AD.  There was a great amount of written material when the Spaniards first arrived in the Central American area, but according to history I have read, vast numbers of these materials were gathered up and burned by the Priests, who condemned the writings as being of the devil.  There is no telling for sure what they contained.  The few codexes that survived do not say much, but do depict white people mixing among darker people.  The Kon Tiki Expediton, put together by one Thor Hyerdahl, was done to show that the Pacific Islanders originally emigrated from the American Continent, and there is a great deal of evidence of two different races living on the islands--a white and a brown race.  Captain Cook's artists drew pictures of Whites and Brown people living together there until, as in the Americas, the whites were exterminated or assimilated in the wars.  Hyerdahl also found hair of Islander's more distant ancestors that was blond and red colored.  The huge stone statues on Easter Island have topknots on them made of red stone, in contrast to the color of the stone beneath the topknots.  Noone of the present generation seems to know what it all means, of course.
