Great verses, Perry.  They certainly help put the passages I shared into
context.  Before a person can be cleansed of sin, they must confess that
they have sin that needs to be washed away.  These verses are an
important foundation for the rest of the epistle, which was written so
that we would become free of the power of sin and no longer sin (1 John
2:1).
