DAVEH:  At the risk of drawing your ire, Perry....I feel compelled to comment on Izzy's question from my LDS perspective.  FWIW....When the spirit and (physical) body are united, a soul is the result.

Izzy, I am not real clear on that either, but it seems clear from scripture
that God distinquishes between them. Soul is mentioned in many verses in the
New Testament which distinguish it apart from spirit, and the following
verses refer to saving or salvation of the soul: Heb 10:39; James 1:21; 1
Peter 1:9.
