That may well be right from some of what I’ve read about Thomas Jefferson, for instance.  However, as you said, freedom of livelihood is a good thing, too.  Yes, the book I quoted delves into that very much, as the authors were concerned about the motivation and whether or not it was a ‘godly” thing to do. That was their biggest concern as they researched for the book. They concluded, after much research, that it was.  You’d have to read it. Izzy

Izzy,

As to your last question, No I have not read "The Light and the Glory." As to whether I have read the founding fathers, Yes I have. I agree with you concerning their religious convictions -- if we are referring to the Northern colonists. The Virginians, on the other hand, had other motivating aspirations; theirs were capitalistic. They wanted to own property and profit from the goods produced thereon (not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with that, just a different motivating factor). The next time you're back East, notice what's at the center of those old towns. In New England it's the church. In the Virginias and the Southern colonies it's city hall. You talk about being what you read -- you are right: these guys built testimonies to it. Community life in the North centered around religion; in the Virginias the heart of the community was government -- a rather significant shift, I would suggest. From whence came the impetus to rebel, do you know?

I am not anti-American, Izzy -- far from it. I love America. I am just not duped into believing that the motives of many of her founding fathers were as godly as you make them out to be.

Bill, Have you ever read literature that has the perspective that the Founding Fathers were NOT “greedy” and rebellious against God’s word when they fought to be free of England’s imperialism? You are what you read.  You read what you are (or want to become.)  Have you ever read the letters and documents written by our founding fathers? Have you ever read “The Light and the Glory”?  Izzy
