Slade, I fully agree with you. I am not sure how I failed to communicate this, but thank you for clearing it up. These soldiers, actually, were important instruments in the spread of the Good News because they were always [generally] on the move outward from Rome.   The preamble ("giving the other cheek"), is a Hebrew idiom to NOT pay back insult with insult.
