I heard my sister once refer to me and my parents as fundamentalists, but I took that as an insult because she said it disparagingly to explain to someone else why I opposed her adultery and divorce and other sinful actions against her husband.
My experience with fundamentalist Christianity was primarily in the Baptist denomination. They gave me the left foot of fellowship within three months. My perspective of them was that they were legalists and Bibliolators who did not let love and the Spirit operate their lives. Ever since then, I figured that I was not a fundamentalist.
