It does divide as per the scripture you quoted because God does not want you hanging with dogs you'll get fleas.

it does UNITE True Believers

it Divides from FALSE BRETHREN come in unawares.

Jesus Christ & His Word are the only basis for Truth & UNITY!

Here is what it requires.

* Must be Saved & the Holy Spirit will ILLUMINATE His Word to your understanding

It is not so with the "Hope so maybe so" crowd they have no assurance

Hebrews 10: 32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were ILLUMINATED, ye endured a great fight of afflictions

Eph 1:8 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

* Christ & the Word are the True LIGHT (watch out for the angel of light & his MINISTERS of Righteousness)

PS 119 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Lu 2 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death

John 1 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ...And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not....That was the TRUE Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world..

This True Light Divides ( notice the two different reactions!)

JH 3 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

2 CO 6 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

How to have True UNITY 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

once ILLUMINED you become a light to the World ( pass it on do not put it under a basket)

MT 5 Ye are the light of the worldNeither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

MT 10 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

Awake, Come to the Light, Be Converted   2 Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Ph 5 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

But it shouldnt divide Believers. It should unite us. Maybe that requires the Holy Spirit, also? Izzy

I have a problem with this also and it is my belief that the Word of God will and does divide as per Izzy's scripture:

Luke 12:51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:    52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.    53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Just with the Unity at expense of truth crowd. Bruce Cockburn is a good example. Touchy Feely "lets all get together drop the things that divide"

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

Look at the list of traits of those that we are commanded "from such TURN AWAY"

Judy Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Who is Walter Cradock? I agree that 'peace at any price' is no peace at all so division is not always a bad thing.

However, we are supposed to grow out of it (that's if we are part of the real Church); contrary to what some claim we are not just sucked up into Christ because we have not refused the incarnation. The work of the ministry (including evangelists) is necessary to prepare God's ppl for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach UNITY IN THE FAITH and (UNITY) IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF GOD and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up INTO HIM who is the Head, that is Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Do you have a problem with any of  the above Kevin?  judyt

There is no strife or disunity in Christ and He is not divided

JD: On the surface, this is untrue.

jt: Had you ever considered that maybe what we see 'on the surface' is not the reality?

But, perhaps I do not know what you mean with the phrase "no stife or disunity in Christ."

jt: It means just what it says - the Church he is coming for will have no spot, wrinkle, or blemish; wouldn't you categorize strife and

disunity as wrinkles and blemishes?.

When can we say unity has occurred?

jt: When we are of one heart and one mind. When we are all say the same thing and doing what He says.

When a division occurs and assuming one believer in definitely in Christ  --  how does the onlooker tell the difference in the two opponents?

jt: Eventually, as ppl grow into Christ and His love is perfected in their hearts a wolf will be exposed in spite of the sheepskin by

what is coming out of his mouth.

In I Cor 1, when ones describes as a part of the problem are in Christ?   John

jt: Is the above a question?  I don't get it....
