I do not know, to tell you the truth. I know only that it is the best approach -- for me at least. I use to love to debate. And I was fairly good at it. I was even on the debate team at university and with my partner won in competition against Colorado College. But I have grown to hate it in matters relating to our Lord. And I am not nearly proficient enough in that which I have come to believe and practice regarding disengagement. I know only that my nature is to go for the throat when debating another and that that is not conducive to persuasion.

I love discussing ideas and I enjoy reading or listening to the ideas of others (that is why I am still on TT) --  but I hate debate. If there doesn't appear to be any chance of resolve, I would rather disengage than ride a disagreement into the gutter.
