Great quotes from the Saints
"causing too much emphasis in the church to turn toward the homeless problem
and it was distracting from Christ."
Then there was the Brother who tells everyone he is a street preacher. Same one we took to a tuff event he never said boo and sat on the sidelines the whole time. Once he went to witness to the LDS and was so frustrated with them he said "Let them go to hell"

I think it is the character of the men. You know some of them. They do have a burden.
Coming from a Baptist background there are more people that get intimately involved. I have friends from other denoms and they just seem to be Christian nursery schools. Don't get me wrong I believe some really love the Lord they just need someone to change their diapers & feed & burp them.
For instance I know a lot of Calvalry Chapel members & Pastors very well.
They have Christian parties in the Public park, this is their idea of outreach.. All day long they mix with the Lost in that park. Would any think hey I can get rid of hundreds of tracts. I sware their Motto is "Meet Eat & Retreat"!
You will never raise to a tempature higher than those around you. So find a church where they are on Fire for the Lord..

I know of a Christian family of 4 sharing their 3 Bedroom Home with a family of 6 The same family that did not know where their next meal would be coming from.
Christians taking in babies that were headed for Planned Parenthood
Caring for children abandoned by Mom & Dad.
Men that started a mission to reach the homeless.
Christians that left pro baseball for a lifetime of disease and a mud hut in Africa
Chrstians that left high income jobs for a chance to reach the Eskimo in Alaska
I know sat beside them in Church. They are an example to me. The CC crowd is a besetting weight.

Unfortunately, yes. I don't know how it is up there in New York where you
live, but most Christians here are reluctant to get so involved in a
drunkard's life. I setup a homeless network when I lived in Tampa to try
and make it easy for Christians to help the poor and homeless. I had
everything setup with the county to pay for three months rent if need be. I
had a seutp with a thrift store for free clothing and furniture just by
walking in the store with the guy. All the resources were taken care of,
and all I needed were Christians to work with the person and minister Christ
into their lives. Still, very few Christians wanted to get so involved.
Even bringing the homeless to Bible studies and church meetings made some
Christians uncomfortable. One elder in our church told me that I was
causing too much emphasis in the church to turn toward the homeless problem
and it was distracting from Christ. This only because I would bring in
several homeless people every week and maybe give a testimony or two about
great things happening among the homeless I was working with. Now to be
fair, there were some that took people in and helped tremendously. Some
women took some prostitutes and dope addicts shopping and carried them to
church, etc., but it really was not the normal thing for all the Christians.
Few were there that would give in this way. Many might come for a Saturday
afternoon and serve lunch and pass out clothes, but few were there that took
the outcast into their own home.

You always seem to have a team of men around you, Kevin. Maybe with your
natural leadership abilities, the Christians in your community readily take
in strangers for months and even years at a time? Please tell me more.

Peace be with you.
David Miller.
