God's word contains the instructions that Satan gave to Eve.
Does it contain or is it the actual words Satan used?

John, it might help if you looked at it another way. God's word contains the instructions that Satan gave to Eve. God reported to us what happened on that occasion so that we might understand. Satan's words were not holy and his actions were not approved by God, but they are there in God's word, for our benefit.

Yes, there is a reasonable view. I do think that regardless, the Bible is the Word or the Bible contains the Word, we wind up at the same conclusions doctrinally. And the same is true for differences in the thinking on inspiration. In that regard, the important matter is whether or not one allows the biblical message to be of paramount consideration.
It is not that big of a deal to me. When cornered by an unbeliever, however, I never argue for inspiration. Rather, I assume the authority of the biblical record and quote it at will.
Although I am quite the fighter, sometimes it is better to avoid the battle and win the war.
I do see the point of your post. I will be thinking about that.
