Obedience is a complex thing.
No Caroline, it is a heart attitude that
is simple one is either obedient or they are disobedient.
Consider the story of Elijah. He had a huge
victory on Mount Carmel against 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of
Asherah and his intercession ended a drought. Yet, he ran away when
Jezebel threatened to kill him.
Not surprising that he would be tired
and a little discouraged after such a feat is it? But still he ran 25
miles ahead of Jezebel and her chariot on foot.
On Mount Horeb, God listened to all of Elijah's
complaints and corrected his misperceptions. Then He gave him 3
commands
1) anoint Hazael king over Aram
2) anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over
Israel
3) anoint Elisha to succeed you as
prophet.
Elijah only did one of the three. It was Elisha
who tells Hazael that he will be the next king over Aram and Elisha who
sends an unnamed prophet to anoint Jehu.
I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to
judge Elijah Caroline. After all he is the one received the commission isn't
he? How do you know it was supposed to be 1-2-3-4? A disobedient
prophet does not get a "prophet's reward" I can
recall one who was deceived into
stopping when told not to who was eaten by lions.
If Elijah was a pastor on TT, how would we have
treated him? Chastised him for weak faith and disobedience? Question whether
he really is a believer? Warn him that he is in danger of
hellfire?
We don't have to speculate because he
was not disobedient, he is not a pastor, and is not on TT.
What God did was take him to heaven in a fiery
chariot, one of only 2 men that we know who never experienced death. Every
passover, Jews all around the world, set a place for Elijah at their table
because he is prophesied to return before the Messiah.
Yes, John the Baptist is said to
have come in the Spirit of Elijah and he appeared with Moses on the Mt. of
Transfiguration..
Folks, some people have
reduced the relationship with our heavenly Father to obedience and that
is sad. Some people have reduced God's revelation to isolated
biblical verses, ignoring the grand sweep of the narrative revelation,
the stories of biblical people living out their faith. That is sad too.
Love, Caroline
Jesus who left us an example that we
should "follow in His steps" was obedient to the Father Caroline - He said
"the Father is greater than me" He also said "Lo, I come in the volume
of the Book, I delight to do thy will O My God" So how is it sad to
want the same thing for our own lives?
What I find sad is that you ppl with the
'wide sweeping revelation" take sin so lightly. Think about it - if it
was
serious enough to incur God's wrath
toward His only begotten son on the cross at Calvary - Following which
He
sent us the Promise - His Spirit to empower us and to lead us into
all truth. How could anyone in their right
mind believe God is now willing to go
against His own Word and overlook what (because of His Holiness)
He has had to judge since before the
foundation of the world? It makes no sense....
