John refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved because he is fully cognizant that God's love for him as an individual has been revealed to him in the person of Jesus Christ. His gospel and epistles speak again and again that God is love, so much so that theologians speak of Pauline theology and Johannine theology.

And your explanation would be.....?

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord.
Why is this said about John?

He used Paul way more. Way, way more. I'm not saying God uses only intelligent people or that God has no use for the mentally challenged. But He can and does use the intelligent, gifted, wise ones more. Otherwise, why give them intelligence, gifts and wisdom? And why tell people that if they've been given much, much will be required of them?

An intelligent Christian with wisdom can be taught and such a person would be used mightily by the Spirit. Paul is an example of such a person.

And so was a common fisherman named Peter.  Izzy

I cor 1: 26For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,   28and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29so that no man may boast before God.
