The lessons it teaches are true.  One must first look for the possibility that each word/phrase means exactly what it says, barring obvious parables and illustrations. The simplest approach is the easiest way to find the truth.  If one wants to avoid/distort the truth one only needs to muck it up by making it complex out of all proportion.
