Anti-slavery people left the Methodist Episcopal Church to form the Wesleyan Methodist Church because of their divide on the slavery issue.  I would consider the Wesleyans to be much more conservative, wouldn't you?  My reading on this issue causes me to perceive the leadership of the abolitionist movement to come mostly from Baptist, Methodist, and Quakers, whereas those supporting slavery were Unitarians, Episcopalians, and Roman Catholics.  It seems to me that liberal churches supported slavery.    What do you do with someone like John Brown? Surely you don't consider him a liberal Christian, do you?    And please don'tforget that it was the Democratic party that supported slavery.  We all know that this political party is bent toward liberalism.    So what causes you to think that liberal churches opposed slavery?   Peace be with you.
