And hundreds are driven further away --- such an argument justifies any appraoch as long as someone is converted. If it were up to some SP, there would be virtually no one in the church, today.

Aside from the ad hominem mischaracterization of "another man's undies," aren't you forgeting about the people who converted to Christ because of it? If just one person is awaken from their stupor of a false religion, how could that be a "waste of time"?
