room for diversity of interpretation in the Catholic church

Anathema!

Burn her
RCC eat his FLESH and drink his literal blood. Anybody who does not believe this is - accursed anathema. Anybody who believes that their salvation is outside the Catholic Church is accursed anathema. Anybody who believes in justification by grace through faith—anathema, accursed. Anybody who believes that the Pope is not the vicar of Christ—accursed, anathema.

Actually, that was a flippant response. I do know. Yes, there are Catholics who think this way. But how vocal they are about it, or whether there are priests who teach it, I am not sure. I do know that there is a lot more room for diversity of interpretation in the Catholic church than in many other churches.

..whether or not you believe in transubstantiation as some conceive of it, the point this kind of language tries to make is that Christ himself is indeed real nourishment, as he said in John 6.
