the time-was an attempt to imply I back stabbed you (a way of getting the idea
on the table)-and I responded as such.
To me it seems
like context is pretty important here, Dean. I understood Dave's statement in a
different way than you did. This is his statement from
10/14: "From my LDS perspective, I truly believe you and I are
both literally spirit children of our Heavenly Father. Even if you were to
stab me in the back, I would still respect that heavenly kinship be tween us and
pray that you would change your (backstabbing) ways. I know that is
sometimes hard....but I think it is what Jesus would want me to do." Dave writes in what is called a "subjunctive mood"
here. It is used to set up a hypothetical
situation.
In your next
reply, you wrote: "I will not go down this road with you
again at this time-when I feel you are honest we can talk -till then -tally ho
and keep boasting on you great qualities-stab you in the back while you do the
forgiving-geez I almost shed a tear over that one-almost :-)"
To which Dave
responded: "Boasting? If you really think I am
boasting.....I need to apologize to you and the other TTers. I neither
feel the need to boast, nor do I think it becoming of a Christian. I am
sorry that you believe I have done such. The reason I included the
hypothetical back stabbing comment was merely to convey to you my thought
process as to your comments about my respect for your beliefs and warring
against your God. I was not suggesting you had stabbed me in the back, and
if you took it as such....my apologies for poorly conveying my
thoughts."
The next
time the subject of "back stabbing" came up, it was in this following
exchange. You wrote: "But I
do have a different plan for you this year:-)" Dave then responds: "Welllllllllllll Dean.......You certainly have piqued my curiosity!!! Can you let me in on what you have in store for me this year? If you tell me up front, then I can't claim you back stabbed me! :-) " To which you respond: "Back stabbing-as you know- is being friends to ones face then
attacking someone when they trust you enough to turn their back towards you. I
have always been honest with you about my feelings for Mormonism/You up front-so
when have I back stabbed you? If one makes a charge against another he
should be able to prove that charge-so prove yours-this is a serous charge Dave
H-it is called making false charges against another(ie. Bearing false wittiness-
breaking a commandment)." Back stabbing is mentioned a few more times,
but it all seems to go back to these initial comments.
To me it looks like this may be a
misunderstanding.
