Blainerb:  No, I was not talking about sinfulness--I was talking about what small amount of righteousness we can muster--
It is like a marriage covenant, wherein the bride and the groom put their resources together to make the marriage work.  Assuming Jesus is the bridegroom, and the church the bride, the two together are able to work out salvation for all who have entered into the covenant, by )1 using the bride's limited resources, and 2) using the bridegroom's unlimited resources.
The bride, first of all, takes the groom's name (The Church of Jesus Christ), just as a bride takes her husband's name.  Then, using the two sets of resources, they together work out the salvation of those who have entered into the covenant relationship.
All the resources of the bridegroom, unfortunately, are not available to those outside the covenant, although the good-will of the bridegroom is such that all outside the relationship are nevertheless benefited.   This is called "grace" by some.
To repeat, ALL benefit, even those who have decided against full membership in the covenant; but obviously, those who will benefit the most are those who have trimmed their lamps and had oil in them, or, in other words, are ready to take upon themselves his name,  and are prepared to enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments.

"Between the two of us we have it covered"?
His righteousness plus your UNrightousness have it covered?
Simple Math Blaine

Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

JESUS PAID IT ALL! Not the TWO of us!
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever

I'll do what you can't yet do. Between the two of us, we'll have it all covered. You will be one hundred percent justified.’” (Stephen E. Robinson, Believing Christ: The Parable of the Bicycle and Other Good News [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1992], 31-33.)
