can you confirm that there is a mail in the Maildir of the user you  
are trying to log in??
for commandline email try mutt,
or just ls -r the Maildir to check if there is mail in there,
then look into the files you find if the mail you are expecting is in  
there.

ps: i use the mentioned setup, postfix+courier+apache-ssl-squirrelmail
