Cyrus will only complicate things. However, since squirrelmail can talk 
to any imap server, it shouln't really matter.

What happens if you access the server with a normal email client via 
imap? I usually like to make sure everything is ok with the imap server 
first, then look at other stuff.

Normal imap clients does not know about Maildir/, they only relate to 
INBOX which is presented yb the imap server.

The point is that it's the imap server that handles the inbox. 
squirrelmail is just another imap client, at least the way I have set it 
up numerous times. So first make it work with local imap clients, then 
make squirrelmail connect to the imap server like any other client, and 
see that it works. At this point the imap server can listen to localhost 
only, if you don't want remote access.

It's been a while since last time I played around with squirrelmail, but 
what I just described used to work nicely.
