Isn't something similar already implemented - "tup generate"? On the
other hand, "tup generate" is currently very buggy - it didn't run
successfully for me even once...

You're right. Thanks for the tip! And I actually got it to work
(although with some error messages about the progress bar).
I'll leave my script up in case someone else needs a quick fix, but
I'll add a note to the readme.
Okay, it actually didn't work for me - it missed generating the
executable at the end.
