Sorry (; That's one of "recent" additions that are currently not
documented. There are some tests in the repository:
https://github.com/gittup/tup/blob/master/test/t2175-generate-shell-script.sh
https://github.com/gittup/tup/blob/master/test/t2177-generate-shell-script2.sh
Well... I guess I'll go try that out.
I also see that feature as extremely useful, but - as I said - I fails
for all projects that I have. On Linux it gives a rather stupid error
about progress bar size and in Windows it doesn't run either...

I guess that this feature has some problems with outputs in other
directories, because this is what I use in all my projects. If it
generates a script for such project (only on Linux), the script
doesn't work anyway, because there are no "mkdir" calls, so the output
folder doesn't exist...

Yeah, it doesn't work for me either apparently.
And I apologize, my script probably doesn't support groups either. Are
you using groups with Lua files? I probably need to fix the readme. If
you can send me a db with groups and an example expected output I can
try adding it.
I feel bad not looking into fixing it in the tup core but I'm not in a
good position to dig in at the moment.
