The same question was asked on the Castor mailist about a month ago. My opinion is that Castor is in just that same place as Torque, if not worse. I think Torque is just getting it own legs, since it was spun off from the Turbine project. The biggest thing is that is no easy to pick up any of these O/R tools. Let alone start working on the code base. But I think the addition of the OJB to Jakarta, see http://jakarta.apache.org/ojb/, project will bring some nice cross-pollination.
I'm going with Torque, because the I see that Turbine has a direct need. Thus, I don't torque to die. Whereas Castor has not such direct link to Castor JDO. It is my understanding that the company hosting is doesn't have developers working on it. It not thier primary goal. It just happen to turn up as neat feature. This isn't a bad thing, it nice that they are providing the hosting and the support that they are.It just makes me really hesitant to really dig into it. Whereas, you know that Turbine depends on Torque. Well, that's my two cents worth...
