I really like the maven plugin idae + sample applications more than a 'TDK'.

I remember starting off with Turbine and what I really wanted was a simple application 
to look at and run: Sample applications

Then after I got the hang of it, I wanted a quick way generate a starter/skeleton 
application.  Using a plugin here would be perfect.  Generate the directory, initial 
setup, and project.xml set to download all the deps needed to start out with.
