Hopefully the work going on by Sean and Jeff will bear some fruit on making it easier to get started. At this point 2.4 is NOT production ready. We are waiting for the release of the new Merlin component container before moving on.
I would recommend taking a look at the TDK2.3 that was posted recently. It is still a work in progress, but is much improved. also, look at this app: http://jakarta.apache.org/turbine/fulcrum/fulcrum-osworkflow-example/index.h tml. You need Maven to build it, but Turbine requires maven anyay..
