turbine users,
I've been stuggling with the fact that OPL duplicates
much of Castor. In fact, Castor implements more (per
field dirty checking, auto-saving, JTA, stored
procedures, a subset of OQL, more intelligent
relationship handling), and it has the commercial
backing to make things happen quickly. You don't want
to spend hundred of uncompensated hours on open source
work which won't be used.

However, after studying Castor, I feel there's room
for a smaller system which implements the criteria
objects of S.A.'s design. The size, scope, and
complexity of Castor make it difficult to modify. For
example, Castor developers are struggling with adding
multi-key support which is already in OPL.

As John said earlier this week, there's no single
soution to these problems. If the main concern is
efficiency, village and MySQL is a good solution. For
portability and ease of programming, I hope that some
will find OPL useful.

Some have asked for the code to study it, but none
have used it. I would be very happy to help someone
get it up and running. At different times, I've used
it with MySQL, Oracle, MS SQLServer, and PostgreSQL on
Windows and Linux. Currently, most of my work is with
PostgreSQL because it's included on the RedHat CD.
