I wrote to Dave Shields, one of the original authors
of the Jikes compiler,
and asked him about the future of the product. With
his permission, his
reply is forwarded below. Note that the compiler is
an open source project
now, and he has moved on to other work. The Jikes
project page is at

If there are any compiler writers out there who would
like to contribute to
Jikes, I'm sure the team would be glad for your help!
