Jon, ever the diplomat, put it more succinctly than I could...

There are some who have problems with the GPL in that it is supposedly
unfriendly to business (as witnessed by the unmitigated failure of the Red
Hat IPO and business model ;-) because it virtually requires that you give
source-level access to derivative products to whomever requests it. The
Apache License is less restrictive insofar as commercial use of the
software is concerned and, therefore, considered by many to be more
business friendly while not restricting open source development. As Jon
mentioned, you are welcome to scan the thousands of past messages to learn
the more cogent arguments as to why this is an issue, presuming you'd
rather read the collective wisdom of the group than develop.

But the decision as to which to use is not a matter of right or wrong but
of your philosophy. The Apache people will not incorporate GPL code into
their distribution (actually, they have made exceptions to this in the
past, for expediency, but in general this is true), so if you want XForm to
become part of Apache you'll need to change the license.

If you are content to have it a standalone product, then it is really your
call.

Sean

that's a pretty harsh rebuff.

here's a question then:

If you do think it would be REALLY cool, would it be worth rewriting
and releasing under a different license? assuming this is on the up and
up.
