Yeah I did make sure, and I made sure the CLASSPATH was correct also.
As it turns out, the reason the classes were not found was that I was using
the lib directory from the other version of tomcat, because the somehow
corrupt tar distribution did not include the lib directory, and I was trying
to get it to work. Unfortunately, I had forgotten that I had done that when
I saw the error message. Oh, well. 

Is there an FTP method to get the distribution? My HTTP via Netscape seems
to be corrupting the file.

I will try to download it with IE today. 

What versions of tar and gzip were used to create the distribution? Perhaps
that is my problem.

Any other ideas? Should I use the later distribution? If I decide to go with
the latest snapshots, how can I get the Village and JNDI?
