At this point, it's Madden's call as to whether he wants to give it up
or not--it's the least they can do for his many years of service.
Remember that "Sunday Night Football" is NBC's top-rated show every
week in the fall and there may a reluctance to change anything as long
as it's working.

Perhaps if Collinsworth works well with Michaels this week (and I
would think that Collinsworth will be glad to be away from that
overcrowded desk in 30 Rock), it may send Madden to thinking that
maybe it's time to hang it up. But I were Dick Ebersol, I wouldn't
want to fire him and get the vitriol that would come, particularly
from the casual viewers who may like Madden's personality and aren't
noticing that he may not be as sharp an analyst as he once was.
