Precisely. Last season, The Amazing Race Asia had contestants go to the Philippines and they didn't visit Makati or any of the malls, they were sent to a farm to blow a field using a carabao. That seems like a reasonanble comparison to me. And TARA was not only broadcast in the Philippines but even had Filipino contestants. It might be harder to cry "racism" when the contestants are selected from the very countries they visit... and yet the result is the same: there tends to be a focus on the rural and not on the urban, on the historic rather than the modern, on the unique rather than the mundane.
