I'm not sure that should be necessary to remind you that until the Beatles came on the scene in the 1960s, singers did not write their own material. And, song writers did not sing (in public). And, no one gave it a second thought.
The fact is that with maybe a very few exceptions, great song writers are not great singers and great singers are not great song writers. It makes no sense to assume that the two talents must go hand-in-hand. It's much more logical to assume otherwise.
