Irony: The review of "The IT Crowd" by the now-deceased TV critic of
Time Out New York (reprinted in Time Out Chicago after TOC's TV critic
moved to New York and before she replaced the now-deceased New York
critic at TONY) complained about the "laugh track."
I tend to believe that it's a fresh captioning job--the words that
would be spelled a certain way on a British file aren't. Vitac, Jim
E.'s old employer, does a lot of captioning for BBCA where all
American spellings of words are used (but any references to BBC1 are
captioned as the official "BBC One," I assume after a memo from the
Beeb). Also, Rainbow tends not to credit itself, much as HBO doesn't
credit itself for its in-house captioning.
