Well, he did say it was her "breakthrough movie", not her
breakthrough. I am a Tina Fey groupie, and I could not name another
Tina Fey film prior to Mean Girls.

Clearly the Fallon show is going for a younger audience than my demo -
and if he proves popular with the young people, more power to him. I
think the point about the paradox with the guest list though is valid.
I only watched the first two episodes because the guests skewed more
to my demo, and frankly I suspect his high ratings numbers are only a
result of the star power of those early guest names. If at some point
his guest list is taken more from reality shows and CW sitcoms, we
will see if Fallon himself has enough appeal to even young viewers to
keep them interested. I only don't watch Dave when he has one of three
guests on: Dr. Phil, Donald Trump, Martha Stewart. I'm not sure Fallon
will inspire that kind of loyalty among his demographic, but that
might just be because I am an old guy.

FWIW, I checked in with my college student daughter, living in
Manhattan, and asked her if she or her friends had watched Fallon's
show (I was actually emailing her to encourage her to go to the
Tribeca Film Festival Di Niro was pimping). Not only did she not watch
it, she didn't know anything about it, and thought that when I told
her about the Fallon show I was making a joke (she and I do both have
a soft spot for the Barry Gibb talk show). Small sample, but bad news
if their target audience is hipster Manhattan college students...
