D.L. has been a great guest on Real Time with Bill Maher. I didn't catch "Weekends at the D.L." but I did watch the debut of "Breaks the News." And it just wasn't good. He seemed too concentrated on the preplanned funny in bits that were the Chappelle's Show as staged by the writers of Craig Ferguson's "Michael Caine in Space." It makes me just wish he could be as he is with Maher. And not doing things a writing partner or segment producer thinks will totally kill. That makes me believe he's doing the equivalent of "Late Show with Jimmy Fallon." But at this point, in trying to be The Black Bill Maher and The Black Anderson Cooper, I kinda wish he'd be more Tavis Smiley / Charlie Rose. Or D.L. Hughley. And maybe that's not on late night TV. Or weekend TV. Maybe it's radio. Or the B-list of standup again. But why give D.L. a third talk show to tank at when Colin Quinn and Zach Galifianakis only got one each? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
