I think it's a big story because Letterman is a big star.  Also, it's
big story because Letterman has managed to keep his private life mostly
out of the tabloids.  So, when we do hear something about his private
life, it should be a big story.

To me, it isn't a testament to Letterman not being popular, I see it
more as a testament to how little the institution of marriage is
regarded. He's been with the woman for years, and they already had a
kid. So last Thursday he said a few words and probably slipped a ring on
her finger. Many don't see marriage as more than that. They don't
recognize the significance of a formal union, and so they don't see the
story as having much significance, either.

I think that means Jimmy Kimmel is the last single talk show host
standing. You would think that would be a story, too, but it isn't.
