I would give almost the exact opposite review. I thought Obama killed, and delivered his lines with remarkable stage presence. As he did at the Al Smith dinner, he closed with a serious but heart felt and appropriate comment that elevated the event. I watched the stream from C-SPAN and my buzz was not killed in the least. Sykes - who I think is usually hilarious - was strident and trying way too hard. Somebody gave her a Whoopie Goldberg pill for the night, at the worst possible time. I don't mind the shots at Rush and others, but they were not very funny, which is the unforgivable sin for a comic. "Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was just so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight."? Where is the joke there? It's not that it is inappropriate or rude, there is just no punch line. You can't just say Rush and Oxycontin in the same sentence and call that a joke. What she is straining for here is a joke that somehow involves Rush leading the *next* terrorist operation and that Airforce One bru ha ha over lower Manhattan. There is a joke there somewhere, and Sykes is the kind of comic who could probably find it and deliver it, but she didn't even seem to try Saturday night. She was not completely unfunny, just not funny enough, particularly when she was trying to be the most biting. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
